Polygamy...
...in the Bible
"If a man have two wives..." Deuteronomy 21:15a.
"If a man have two wives, one beloved, and another hated, and they have born him children, both the beloved and the hated; and if the firstborn son be hers that was hated: Then it shall be, when he maketh his sons to inherit that which he hath, that he may not make the son of the beloved firstborn before the son of the hated, which is indeed the firstborn: But he shall acknowledge the son of the hated for the firstborn, by giving him a double portion of all that he hath: for he is the beginning of his strength; the right of the firstborn is his." Deuteronomy 21:15-17.
From a neutral standpoint, I, a non polygamist see NO case in the Bible against polygamy. Therefore, I believe all the "hype" regarding this issue to be just that. Hype.
There are way more Scriptures and teachings in the Bible that say polygamy is OK. Not just in the Old Testament...
(2 Samuel 12:7 And Nathan said to David, Thou [art] the man. Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, I anointed thee king over Israel, and I delivered thee out of the hand of Saul;
12:8 "And I gave thee thy master's house, and thy master's wives into thy bosom, and gave thee the house of Israel and of Judah; and if [that had been] too little, I would moreover have given unto thee such and such things.")
...But in the New Testament as well. Especially with this parable from the Lord Himself,
Matthew 25
1 Then shall the kingdom of heaven be likened unto ten virgins, which took their lamps, and went forth to meet the bridegroom.
2 And five of them were wise, and five were foolish.
3 They that were foolish took their lamps, and took no oil with them:
4 But the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps.
5 While the bridegroom tarried, they all slumbered and slept.
6 And at midnight there was a cry made, Behold, the bridegroom cometh; go ye out to meet him.
7 Then all those virgins arose, and trimmed their lamps.
8 And the foolish said unto the wise, Give us of your oil; for our lamps are gone out.
9 But the wise answered, saying, Not so; lest there be not enough for us and you: but go ye rather to them that sell, and buy for yourselves.
10 And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came; and they that were ready went in with him to the marriage: and the door was shut.
11 Afterward came also the other virgins, saying, Lord, Lord, open to us.
12 But he answered and said, Verily I say unto you, I know you not.
13 Watch therefore, for ye know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of man cometh.
Now, would JESUS, God in the flesh use a situation that is prohibited, or according to many of you, condemned by God as a parable of the kingdom of Heaven? Jesus said that the five were WISE as well. Wise because they feared God and stayed in the Word.
"Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever." Heb 13:8
Now what verses do Christians point to to "prove" their case against polygamy? Well, the verses by the Apostle Paul of course. But let's take a closer look at those verses.
"If any be blameless, the husband of one wife, having faithful children not accused of riot or unruly." Titus 1:6
"A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife,
vigilant, sober, of good behaviour, given to hospitality,
apt to teach;" 1 Timothy 3:2, KJV
"Let the deacons be the husbands of one wife, ruling their
children and their own houses well."
1 Timothy 3:12, KJV
Now the key to these verses is the word "ONE" from the Greek. Let's see,
3391. mia mee'-ah irregular feminine of 1520; one or first:--a (certain), + agree, first, one, X other.
As you can see, for whatever reason, the King James version translators translated this word to mean "ONE" when we see it can mean "a" [wife] or "First" [wife]. Which would be even more condemning to Rome because they say they are Bishops and can NOT be married at all.
Paul is saying you should be married if you want to be a leader of the church. Paul was unmarried but Paul wasn't a bishop. He was an Apostle. And why would Paul make the distinction that only Bishops should be the "husband of one wife"? What about everyone else in the church? It doesn't make sense and it doesn't line up with the rest of the Word of God.
Will God condemn me for saying this? Does God directly state, "all polygamists shall have their part in the lake of fire"? Or "no polygamist has any part in the kingdom of God"?
And this is not even talking about concubines. Which there is no mention in the new Testament at all. Since when did God outlaw concubines?
1 Corinthians 5:1: A son had fornicated with his "father's wife".
This does NOT refer to the man's mother. Indeed, the term, "father's wife", is a very specific term.
What's at stake?
Only all of Islam. These men with many wives and children will reject your view of polygamy in the bible and I believe they will be more right on this subject than all those who put words in God's mouth and say God condemns it.
So in order for a Muslim to come to Jesus he needs to break apart his whole family and push all but one of his wives into adultery according to many of you. But what did Paul instruct in regards to being married to an unbeliever?
1 Corinthians 1: 12 "But to the rest speak I, not the Lord: If any brother hath a wife that believeth not, and she be pleased to dwell with him, let him not put her away.
13 And the woman which hath an husband that believeth not, and if he be pleased to dwell with her, let her not leave him.
14 For the unbelieving husband is sanctified by the wife, and the unbelieving wife is sanctified by the husband: else were your children unclean; but now are they holy.
15 But if the unbelieving depart, let him depart. A brother or a sister is not under bondage in such cases: but God hath called us to peace.
16 For what knowest thou, O wife, whether thou shalt save thy husband? or how knowest thou, O man, whether thou shalt save thy wife?"
So even if a Muslim who is married to an unbeliever. If that wife wants to stay with them Paul says it's OK.
"And he said unto them, Take heed what ye hear:..."
Mark 4:24
In regards to the FLDS (Fundamental Church of Latter Day Saints) I am outraged at what the Government has done through the state. Imagine. They went in their and kidnapped those children because of an anonymous phone call. Now they are sticking needles in them and taking blood from them to verify whose children they are.
Can you imagine them doing this to any and all couples? Extra marital affairs and what not? Or all children from fornication?
But it's ok for QUEERS to adopt children right? Queers can marry now in California but they were already "able" to adopt and raise children. Even single out of the closet Lesbians like Rosie O'Donnel have adopted several children. And you want to make a fuss over polygamy?
Well, that's because many of you who say you are Christians are not. Matter of fact the Bible says true chrisitans will be murdered by the likes of you while you think you're doing "God service"
"...yea, the time cometh, that whosoever killeth you will think that he doeth God service." John 16:2
Not only that. How can they really have a case against FLDS? If they're not even married in the eyes of the State? Where's the law that states what they are doing is illegal? What law did they break?
This is inquisitional Rome having their way with these Mormons. These dirty filthy devils are doing this. You better pray God rebukes these devils or else they may come and get your children next. Or maybe God will allow something terrible to happen to your children.
EVERY JEW AND EVERY ARAB THAT HAS EVER LIVED, INCLUDING THE LORD JESUS CHRIST HIMSELF, COMES FROM POLYGAMIST PARENTS: ABRAHAM, ISHMAEL, ISAAC, JACOB, AND THE TWELVE TRIBES OF ISRAEL.
God’s law of right and wrong actually commands a man to be a polygamist under the Levirate Law. If a man dies without a son, his brother or near relative, must inherit the widow and raise up children for the deceased husband. Two well-known instances of the Levirate are found in the book of Ruth, and in the Gospel of Mark, chapter 12 proposed by the Sadducees to Jesus.
Although a man might wish to remain monogamous, yet God’s law of Levirate inheritance might easily convert him into a bigamist, if he were already married, by God’s law of right and wrong commanding him to marry his brother’s widow, if the brother had died without leaving a son. Among the Hebrews this was a frequent cause of polygamy. ~Source
